Product Manager


Richard is a product manager in VMware’s R&D department, where he oversees development of the VMware {code} developer portal and associated microservices, and has worked with software developers in several capacities for nearly 20 years. Richard received his Master of Information Science degree from San Jose State University, and a Bachelor degree from University of California at Santa Cruz.

When he’s not advocating developer experience or spending time with his family, Richard likes to dress up in medieval armor as a participant in the Society for Creative Anachronisms.

In this talk, I’ll walk you step-by-step through our journey to create and grow a community-powered exchange for sample code that makes it easier for developers to get started, grok our technology, and share their ideas. Along the way, I’ll show you some of the hacks we employed to incentivize content contributions, reach new audiences, and achieve viral growth. You’ll also learn how you can use some of the same tools and techniques to create your own sample exchange and drive community content contributions.
